I think that when I got this assignment I thought about it differently than others had before me. When I think of technology, I think of any device that uses electricity. When I interviewed my mother she thought of technology as devices with screens and accessibility to the internet. By the time I heard this, I had already started to draw my human-like vacuum.
I thought that maybe a vacuum wouldn't be considered technology, and maybe I should just restart with something completely new. But, the problem with that thought was I had already started this piece and I loved it. There were a few problems with shading, but I thought my drawing was really cool (First image of my slide presentation).
I ended up restarting anyways, but not to do a new concept. I wanted to make this piece as perfect as possible. I traced my first piece unto a new sheet of paper, and tried again. My shading was much better than the first time around.
After restarting, the rest of the piece just came together. The vacuum body is a bit gory, and the walls a bit decayed. I think the piece as a whole is off-putting. But, technology having human-like anatomy is unnatural and not right. Overall I am happy with the piece, and excited to see how others approached the prompt.
